Improving on an old favorite.

Thanks to everyone who posted their list of go to meals. These are meals that we go to because We know we can do them right and they are convenient. This weekend we are asking you to choose one meal from your list and think of a way to save energy when preparing this go to meal using the tools you already have in your kitchen. If you want to do a little experimenting, please do. Don't forget to take some pictures.

Good luck!
Josh

  1. When I am making tacos or cheeseburgers or really anything that requires a pan to be hot I have been experimenting with how many things I can cook at a time on that single surface. This has worked well with eggs, sausage and toast. For cheeseburgers I have been toasting the bun/bread on the skillet and waiting to melt the cheese until the stove is off towards the end of the cooking process then using the head already generated along with a top. I have also been cooking my vegetables less or just heating them once the stove is off. This morning I made egg sandwiches with cheese and spinach, and I cooked the spinach on the still hot skillet. This was great because I often overcook things like this. I am now incorporating this technique into my way of making egg sandwiches. With tacos I recently cooked the chicken then right before it was done put the tortillas and cheese on, pulled the chicken and cut it up, put it in the tacos and put a top on it all. The heat was still on but it didnt need to be at medium anymore. I have noticed that the more I have everything ready to cook the less time I am scrambling to cut something while the stove is running. Preparation is something that I have noticed that helps me cook efficiently. I have been trying to remember to get everything out and next to the stove before I turn it on and begin my process.
